You can find Supra shoes at Revert 95, the Supra shop of the Netherlands. Founded in 2006 by Californian Angel Cabada, Supra has quickly become one of the leading brands in skate shoes and sneakers. In a market flooded with plain, run-of-the-mill black-and-white sneakers, Supra made a difference with skate shoes and sneakers that are as flashy as they are original. Supra introduced bright colors, gold, silver, and eye-catching details to the street scene, and with the Skytop, holds the patent on the superlative high-top. Many skate shoe and sneaker brands try to follow or imitate Supra, but Supra always manages to stay ahead of the competition thanks to its grassroots approach and impeccable sense of style.
Supra history
Angel Cabada was born in Orange County, California. He was exposed to skateboarding at an early age, which proved crucial for the rest of his life. Jobs at fast food chains and car dealerships proved unsuitable, and at some point, he decided to start making clothes with his friends. He learned by doing, and in 1991, he and a partner founded the clothing brand TSA (Team Santa Ana). After 10 years, he decided it was time for the next step and started his own business; in 2002, he launched a new clothing brand called Kr3w . His time with TSA proved to be a valuable learning experience; the rookie mistakes he made with that brand wouldn't repeat themselves with Kr3w. Kr3w introduced skinny jeans to the skate scene, and the brand quickly became a huge success. To complement the clothing line, Angel also wanted to launch a Kr3w shoe line around 2005, but he realized this would create conflict with his business partners. After spending $100,000 on samples for Kr3w Footwear, he changed his mind and launched Supra Footwear in 2006. Supra is Latin for "above" and "beyond," but Angel also just thought it sounded cool. His idea for Supra was to design shoes that complemented the clothes he made and were a little less clunky than the shoes that were so en vogue at the time. Initially, people laughed at Supra's first shoe, the Skytop, but it became such a success that it was a classic case of "he who laughs last, laughs best."
Supra for and by skateboarders
From day one, Supra has been a true skate brand. The fact that Supra sneakers are now also incredibly popular among non-skaters hasn't changed that. Even before the brand had truly gotten off the ground, famous and influential skaters were brought in to influence the style and construction of the skate shoes. In recent years, Supra has released successful signature shoes by Tom Penny, Erik Ellington, Jim Greco, and Stevie Williams, as well as well-known skate models like the Vaider and Stacks. But it all started with the aforementioned Skytop by Chad Muska. This iconic high-top, which Muska developed in collaboration with Supra designer Josh Brubaker, changed the look of skate shoes forever. Muska: "We wanted something different than the traditional, clunky skate shoes with a blunt toe. The Skytop marked the end of an era." And the beginning of a new era. According to Muska, Supra was an "underground idea" that "exploded like crazy." Muska's teammate Erik Ellington says he finds it surprising that the brand has become so incredibly successful, when it could just as easily have gone the other way. We don't think it's that surprising, though. Supra has a sixth sense for picking up on trends, but always stays true to its own style. Moreover, the shoes offer the best of both worlds: the durability and support of a skate shoe and the looks and comfort of a sneaker. Besides Supra shoes for adults, Revert 95 also offers Supra children's shoes and caps.
